A downloadable game

Guddu has always wanted a Nerf gun, but has never found the courage to bring it up to his strict parents. With no friends to play with, Guddu instead spends time playing his favorite game with himself in an alleyway near his house. He sees a reflection of himself on the other side of the alleyway as his enemy, and shoots his target down, gaining one point. However, his enemy then revives and performs his previous actions, so he must now play to avoid his previous shot while simultaneously taking his new enemy down. Guddu loves it when he reaches a new high score, proud that he beats the odds each time.

Developer Notes

This is a really small prototype I made for https://itch.io/jam/practice-jam-6 just to get myself back into game development. The theme was "Learn from your enemies," and I thought of how I sometimes consider myself to be my own greatest enemy. This gave rise to the idea that your enemies are copies of yourself, so not only do your enemies learn from you, as you are their enemy, but you must learn from yourself, because your past self is what defines the enemies. I thought it was a cool concept, so I went forward with the idea and started programming a prototype.

The way the game works is when the round starts, the game will record your movement and firing history until you defeat all of the clones. Then on the next round, the game will spawn a clone for each previous round that mimics your actions for that round. At the end of the movement sequence, the clone also fires an additional bullet at your last known position (where you were when you killed the clone). Then the clone plays the whole history backwards, creating a looping movement pattern.

All (extremely basic) assets were made by me; game-engine is Godot.
